Anniversary '16 - Day 08

And now, we're at the final lap. To bring things to a close, today it's time to...

Talk about a favorite TCG memory! It doesn't have to be Tones related, and it can be as general as you want - an event you really enjoyed, a mass deck you were really excited to start collecting, or even just a time where you and a friend spammed each other with pixel cards.

If you're new to TCGs or can't think of anything specific, talk about your TCG life in general. What draws you to a TCG - the decks, whether they're website versus journal-based, whether they're focused on characters or ships, or something else entirely? What kind of TCGs do you wish there were more of, or what kind do you wish existed in general? (I'd still kill for a Digimon-based TCG, no joke.)

For sharing your memories or thoughts, you'll receive anniversary15, anniversary16, and two choice cards! Please state what you're taking in your comment, and you don't have to wait for my response to log them.
As with the other anniversary games, this will close on February 10th on the latest timezone in the world. We hope you had fun, and keep an eye out for information on mastering the anniversary deck!

I think my favorite TCG memory is when I first joined Colors, like many people. I think it was the graciousness of the playerbase there that made me really happy to be in the TCG. Like, I was able to complete my first Pot of Gold because of everyone willing to pitch in and I think that's why I decided that, after almost two years of this, to stay in TCGs both on websites and journal sites. Not to mention that thanks to people helping me out back when I was a newbie, I was able to get first masteries on three decks alone. Like, how crazy is that?

Now, because of all this, I'm so willing to help newbies out with things because I knew when I first joined it was really confusing to try to figure things out and to amass a trade pile that was big enough to do some trades with people who have cards you want.

I'll take onereason02 and onereason03. Thank you!

i think what i like most about tcgs is that you can somehow show off what you like without being overly vocal about it..? like if someone collects all decks from a certain series and i like that series as well, it's easy to connect with them. and you can do nice things for people (like giving them cards or currency they need) without having to wonder how to strike up a conversation. aaand it's a nice way to pass time without having to worry about money, because unlike mmos are mobage, there's no "BUY THIS INGAME CURRENCY WITH YOUR IRL $$$ BECAUSE OTHERWISE THE GAME WILL BE TEDIOUS AND RIDICULOUSLY HARD FOR YOU" anywhere.

how often did i use 'without having to' in this comment wtf

taking whitelight11, whitelight13!

not tones related, but this is my favourtie colours memory.

I really enjoy the friendly atmosphere of eTCGs, though! I've never had so much fun in ages.

I was first introduced to TCGs through an anime TCG on livejournal. I was about... 10 years old? I didn't actually play it, I just liked looking at the cards.

Tones was actually the first TCG I joined, near the beginning of the month. I really thought it looked interesting, and I'm glad I decided to join! Other TCGs I really like are Colors and 1 Up.

I'm pretty excited to collect the Ojamajo Doremi cards for Colors, and on Tones I'm pumped up for collecting the Cardcaptor Sakura decks.

As for what kind of TCGs I'd love to see more of, I wish there was a Cardcaptor Sakura TCG. There's already cards in the show, so it would be perfect. I also would like to see more western animation based TCGs. And I really want a nature TCG, but all the current ones are closed right now, sadly.

I'll be taking catchme10 and catchme02. Thanks!

I belong to Tones and Colors, but my first game was Himitsu, when it was still open. I think the best thing about TCGs in general is that everyone is so friendly! We're all here for the pretty cards, and I feel like everyone just really wants everyone else to have fun! I have pretty bad anxiety online usually, but TCGs are the one place I can talk to people and just have fun!

I'll be taking bloodystream01 and bloodystream02!

My favorite thing about TCGs is the community! Everyone is always very nice, and I think it's nice to see the encouragement people give each other and how they help each other out! Personally, I always love the satisfaction of mastering a deck, or getting a few chain masteries where you only have two cards left or whatever and end up getting like five, that's the best.

Thanks for putting the event on! ♥ Grabbing platinumdisco09 and platinumdisco11!

i like dreamwidth-based tcgs more because there's more of a chance to interact with people, and in my experience everyone's really nice. i get nervous easily, especially when talking to new people, but the atmosphere has been chill. and like dina said it's a nice way to show off what you like!

i also like collecting things, so it's really good for that without spending any money. like i mostly got into sb69 because i wanted to collect the cute cards haha...

taking daze08, daze11!

Hmmm I think my favorite TCG memories was years ago, maybe 12? or so. I used to play a lot of YGO Tcgs (Tanoshii Duel was my favorite). They had a lot of good character decks and I really loved playing the games, especially for a series topic that was super important to me (still is)

for my two choices, can I have justawake05, justawake02?

My introduction to TCGs was a looong time ago, way back on LJ! I can't even remember what the name of it was. I didn't stay long, because it felt like a lot to keep up with—even now, I still worry that it might be a lot to keep track of!—but I have a weakness for collecting things and cute things, and the cards are always super cute, so here... I am... I had been watching others take part in TCGs on Dreamwidth from afar, but I could no longer resist...!! Honestly, the thing that finally made me give in was the fact that Tones is music-related. Music is one of my favorite things, so I'm excited to be part of a game that has music at the center of it! And I won't be surprised if this leads me to give in and join other games, cries... I'm too weak to cute things, it's a serious problem!!

I'll take roundabout01 and roundabout02 for my choice cards!

Ahhhh this is really hard because I've been in TCGs a long time. I think it might be getting to donate the manga adaptations of WALL-E to colors. :B

I'm not very selective with TCGs - website or journal based is fine. The only thing I'm wary of is brand new TCGs. I know, I know, new TCGs need people to have faith in them, but I've been in so many TCGs that closed so quickly after opening without warning.... maybe that's why I've drifted away from site TCGs. With journals there's multiple staff so if things close we usually at least get an official announcement instead of just never getting another update.

It's definitely the community that makes me stick around TCGs!! My first game was the Tenipuri one back on LJ which I loved every single person there because everything was focused on just one series that EVERYTHING was relevant to my interests lmao. I know a lot of the same people in both Tones and Colors, and there, it's just comfortable. It's a really comfortable atmosphere and I like hearing about what people like and take them as recs to look out for and get into, I like amassing a lot of cards and trading/gifting a lot of cards with people at once, I like my wall of pixel cards I can collect at my leisure and chain mastery all at once.

my soul for a pokemon tcg though

My favourite TCG memory is probably when I mastered the entirety of a mass deck I had on Colors a while ago! IT FELT SO GRATIFYING TO FINISH EVERYONE UP IN ONE PLACE.

I'll take katanatosaya01, katanatosaya04, thank you!

My favorite TCG memories is going have to be getting a first mastery of a deck in Colors, which felt really exciting! Also when Himitsu first opened up, I was the one that mastered a puzzle deck first and I felt really accomplished in that feat. While not taking it too seriously, it's pretty fun to race with friends to see who can master a deck first.

I'll take eden01, eden05, thank you!

My favorite TCG memory is modding and deckmaking for Himitsu, which has since closed after about a year of activity. I'm not sure if I'll ever enjoy a TCG as much as I did that, especially because I had so much fun making decks. I'd really, really like to do it again sometime! I probably wasn't the greatest mod ever-- I'd never modded anything before-- and there were some bumps along the road, but overall, Himitsu was a great experience.

I'd love whitelight08 and whitelight09, please!

A couple of years ago I reconnected with a friend that I had lost contact with for ages through TCG. Not only that, but my finding and reconnecting with this friend led me to a whole new group/community that really helped to pull me out of the rough spot I'd been in. To put it simply, if it weren't for my joining a TCG I'd still be in a pretty dark place right now.

ONE OF MY FAVORITE TCG THINGS WILL FOREVER BE PHOTOGRAPHS... i think i actually kind of just miss lj as a tcg base in general? it felt a little different than dw, since i actually used my lj for more than just tcgs.

i'll take bloodystream10, bloodystream11

My favorite TCG memory is when I first joined Colors and Plurk, and was bombarded with gifts from people and made a couple new friends in the process! I really love the community DW TCGs have over website ones too. ;w; and it's so much easier to keep up with announcements and stuff, too!

I'd like angelichowl14, tartetatin02, please and thank you~
