♪ Prejoin Day 7: Soundtrack of your life

Have you ever heard a song and thought to yourself "WHOA this song is so me" whether you seriously felt a connection to the lyrics or jokingly declared it your theme song, either one is completely welcome here. For this discussion post, all you need to do is link to songs that you would include on your own personal soundtrack. You can give as little or as big of an explanation for your choices as you want to.

Some ideas to include here would be:
Songs that make you think back to events or experiences you've had in the past.
Songs that help describe your feelings toward any person, place, or thing.
Songs that you just think are cool in general and wish you could have as your theme song(s).

Alternatively, give me songs that make you feel things. Whether it happy, sad, motivated, tired, anything. Unlike the first option, you don't have to feel any sort of personal connection to these songs.

For this game only, absolutely any song is allowed. It doesn't have to be a song qualified for a deck here at Tones. The songs can be in any language, even instrumental if you so choose, so don't hold back!

You can link up to 5 songs total, and you'll win 2 random cards per song, with an additional 2 random cards if you link the max of 5 songs. Making your total possible reward here 12 random cards. You do not have to link to your prize thread, as this post will be unscreened.

Special bonus since it's Christmas Eve and will be Christmas in a matter of minutes now: Regardless of how many songs you link, you're free to ask for one choice card of any card type. You can log it before I give it to you if you'd prefer, but I'll try to reply to comments ASAP as usual! Happy Holidays, my friends!

Along with every other prejoin discussion and game, this will close on January 7th (GMT-10).

Warning: Some of this involves violence/mental illness and may be triggering for some. I'm going to try and alternate sad and happy stuff though instead of having the list of everything horrible that has ever happened to me because IT'S ALMOST CHRISTMAS SERIOUSLY

Disco Lights by Alex S because I'm a brony/pegasister/whatever and I love MLP music alright deal with it.

Zero by Hawk Nelson has been on my mind a lot lately because of an incident of violence at my school. Suicide wasn't involved like the song implies, but the kid who committed the crime dealt with a mental illness similar to the one I deal with. He had so much potential and now his life is going to be ruined by this. Even though I don't get violent, I can't help but see a little of myself in him, and its reaffirmed my desire to not lie down and die even when people see me as an inconvenience.

Starfriends on Earth is one of my newest favorite songs. It makes me so happy is sort of a comfort in a time where I'm surrounded by a lot of new faces and kinda fail sometimes at remembering to appreciate the people who like me for who I really am.

I Belong to You by Building 429 is a song from a CD I had on repeat when I was on public transit going to visit my dad in the hospice. It still brings back memories of that time for me.

Yet by Switchfoot is the song the flavor text on my old tradepost was from! I listen to it when I'm feeling down.

And for choice, snagging kokoronochizu10

Well, there are a lot of songs I like so I'd just list some that recently had me obsessed for weeks on end (as in literally listening to them over and over to them on replay). Over half are in Korean since I just got into it this year.

Preserved Roses Their voices just really complement each other really well and I like anything by T.M.Revolution.

Perfect Hero Just a song perfect for when I want to work out since it gives me a lot of energy.

Fantastic Baby This was my introduction into the world of Korean music so I'm probably going to remember it for a long time.

Eyes, Nose, Lips My favorite R&B song at the moment and really easy to get into.

Good Boy I don't know, it's somehow addicting and it's different from what their group usually does.

I connect to music extremely strongly. I'm pretty much always looking for meaning in lyrics or musical patterns or what have you. With that said I'll try to keep this comment short because nobody wants to hear me go on and on about every song/band I love lol.

Vienna Teng is my favorite singer/songwriter of any kind, ever. Anybody who knows anything about me knows this fact. Her music has had a phenomenal effect on both me and my writing, and I was so so lucky to go and see her perform last year. I even got to meet her in person and get an autograph/picture, it was amazing. I couldn't pick a favorite song of hers or one I particularly connect to in any way if you paid me a million bucks. Instead, I'll try to pick one off of all her albums that I connect to -- Enough to Go By, Harbor, Love Turns 40, Grandmother Song, Level Up. All of these describe my personality/relationship with my family/desire to grow, though I've really been feelin' Level Up lately. Though there are other songs on that album that -- no I have to stop lol.

By contrast, Splashdown is my go-to "depression band". Whenever I'm feeling particularly upset or down, their music really speaks to me. Deserter is probably the one that really comes close to describing one of ~those moods, but 50% is a close runner up.

Crooked Teeth by Death Cab for Cutie was a song I listened to literally endlessly in high school, I couldn't get enough of it. Even now, listening to a couple bars to write this comment, I can see myself in yearbook class at the computer, doing type things.

I'll stop myself here because seriously, I could go on forever and that Vienna Teng paragraph is long enough... I'd like kuusoumesorogiwi14, please!

1. Save You by Simple Plan. This song always makes me sad but it's one of my favourites because it tunes into what I am feeling almost everyday. Although the video is about cancer, I think it can relate to a lot of other things outside of cancer, so it makes me always think about some of the people in my life that I wish I could do something to "save" them.
-> There is another video by SP that is called 'untitled' and I think that is the most powerful song they have ever written. It might make you cry but it's beautiful and depressingly sad. (link here if you're interested)

2. Close Your Eyes, Michael Buble I think Buble has one of the sexiest voices I have ever heard. It also reminds me of a special someone.

3. Slut Like You, Pink. Honestly, it's just a great song to sing to.

4. Invincible, Hedley. It's a pick me up song. I don't really like this version, I prefer the album version without the rap part. The video is great though, always makes me smile.

5. What Are You Waiting For, Nickelback. I know people rag on Nickelback a lot, but I love them. I understand Chad doesn't have range, but I think his voice is rock n roll sounding, so I love it. Especially their songs that are much more rock sounding like this one - Gotta get me some. I think they do a spectacular job, and some of their softer sounding ones can be off, but mostly I think they're all well rounded. This particular song (What are you waiting for) it's a motivating song. Makes me wanna go do everything I want to do, even the scary things.

SO DEFINITELY 100% Gourmet Race would be on any life playlist, because I adore Kirby and I've always thought that song was awesome, ever since I was a little kid. I like the cutesy N64 version a lot, but this one is just epic.

FUTURE FISH from Free! always makes me smile every time I watch it the video/hear it. I remember how much I spazzed when I first saw the vid (like everyone else, LOL), and my boyfriend and I watched Free! together, so that was fun~

One Week is one of those songs that I can listen to every day, I've always been able to. It just really makes me happy, it's upbeat and hilarious. Plus I saw a Haruhi/Kyon AMV to it at a convention two years ago (and I love Haruhi jkgkj) so that gave me another reason to smile when I listen to it. XD Also actual mention of anime in a mainstream song which is awesome, etc.

Semi-Automatic by twenty one pilots is good, I really enjoy the whole album. I actually saw them in concert (with Panic! at the Disco and Fall Out Boy, it was awesome), but of course I didn't hear the entire album and really get into them until AFTER. Anyway, I really like their songs because a lot of them deal with depression, which I've dealt with for a long time now, so it's always a comfort to hear lyrics that relate with that, since it sort of gives you an outlet for those feelings, in my experience?

PROFANITY WHOO Evening Wear is pretty much the tamest Mindless Self Indulgence song that I could find that wasn't super-offensive, LMFAO... they're terrible with their lyrics, honestly, but their stuff is super-hyper and also a lot of like... well, 'fuck everybody', for lack of a better term, lol. So it tends to cheer me up in a weird way if I'm upset and sort of pump me up, too.

TL;DR, music is super important to me!

cruelangelsthesis03 as my choice, please!

I'm going to go with songs that punch me in the feels. Five of them, because I am a huge fan of tragedy so. Brace yourself if you give any of these a try, I'm going to link five that have reduced me to tears on more than one occasion.

1) "The Heap Princes and Apostrophe" by Hatsune Miku, click here to watch it. It reduces me to blubbering sobs every time. This song and video are incredibly sad.

2) "Run To You" by Pentatonix, especially this Lyricstuck by paperseverywhere. Homestuck-related, but still full of emotion even if you're unfamiliar with the canon; especially since Pentatonix sings the hell outta this song.

3) "I Will Wait" by Mumford & Sons, in this case this lyricstuck version. Though the Book of Life version is feels-inducing as well, though for other reasons. This one is full of feels all over, especially if watched/listened to immediately after #2.

4) "Continued Story" from Code Geass. The final episode. Anyone who's seen the ending knows why this is here. ;n;

5) "Paper Boats" from the Transistor soundtrack, found right over here. Especially saddening if you've played Transistor. Otherwise it has less of an effect. Runner-ups are "_n C_rcl_s" and "Blank Canvas", but everything about Transistor gives me feels.

Meanwhile: Daisy01 for a Choice card, I think. :o

1. The Call by Regina Spektor, regarding my altruistic tendencies and my life changing internship this summer.

2. i by Nicola Roberts. This song remains the closest I've been able to find that describes my fears, hope, and anger of the world.

3. Naughty from the Matilda Musical. A song to remind me to play outside the rules, to never again try to please everyone, and that I can change my own story.

4. Fairytales for Girls by Elizaveta. On growing up, nostalgia, and remembering to always bring whimsy with me.

5. Shake it Off by Taylor Swift. My feel good song, my self-proclaimed anthem, AND a reminder that I should always dance- even if I can't. At least I'll always be better at it than Tay Swift.

1. Me Against the World by Simple Plan was my 8th grade theme song that embodied all of my middle school rage and rebellion /cries. But so many years later, I still hold this one close because of that, and how I've grown away from "THE WORLD HATES ME I HATE THE WORLD RAAAAAAAAGGEE" hahaha. In terms of empowerment, this one still does the trick though ;)

2. Viva La Vida by Coldplay is sort of the general theme for my life at the moment, which is basically picking up pieces and rebuilding myself, getting over the whole disillusionment thing.

3. Semero, Tsuyoku Nare from Tenimyu is... what largely carried me through one of the lowest points in my life, in which the only way I could make myself go forward was to sing this song to myself walking to school or taking a bath or before I go to bed :x This is the only song I've memorized the Japanese for and "Semero, tsuyoku nare"-- in English, "Attack, become strong"-- became my word of encouragement that I would keep repeating as a mantra, something to hold onto like a promise things would get better. I KNOW IT'S TENNIS BUT!! The lyrics, you know? Things like if things are bad, then try twice as hard; if you are feeling sad, then become stronger; if you want to win, then change yourself. Things aren't useless, you aren't weak, all you need to do is attack, and become strong! ᕦ(ò_óˇ)ᕤ These were things that I needed to hear.

4. Light Up the Sky by Yellowcard is a bittersweet song for me. The version I linked to is a video that I made for a friend (we had RPed with me as Hiyoshi and her as Atobe, and this was a dedication piece I drew for when Hiyoshi lost the first match against Seigaku, and Atobe getting him over that rut through a tennis match-- it made sense in my head at the time, haha) because she would "light up my sky" in that she always knew how to cheer me up. But we've since fallen apart, and it was messy and full of regrets on my side and probably anger and spite on hers. It was sort of "our" song, and when I listen to this, it's a sad sort of happy? Remembering the past sort of happy (':

5. Once Upon a December from Anastasia is another nostalgic song because it was the first time a friend I met online not only recorded their voice but sang for me and ngl, to me, that is the most serious amount of trust anybody can bestow upon me, haha. Because I can *not* sing, and the fact that I've gone and recorded a song for her in return was "ASDFLKJH. WOW. DON'T LAUGH. BE GRATEFUL, FRIEND" basically mortifying on my part, but looking back, I'm really happy for these sort of exchanges xDD We've gone though our ups and downs too, but this is the one friend I would love to keep with me as long as I possibly can. She makes me feel bubbly inside and so does this song :D

Happy holidays!

For me? Hmmm. /_\ I don't know what I relate to when it comes to Music. I just have songs I like, usually by the way they sound over the actual lyrics. I tend to tone out words a lot. So its hard to say... There are a few songs I think I really like listening to over and over again.

Kupenga - Strangely Arousing (EN): I really love this song, I got this song around the time I had to move again, and It wasn't a very good time, lbh. But this song just so happy (even though its also about like change). Its not happy in Lyrics I guess, but the beat is just so asldkfjasdf blah can't explain it.

Piece of My Soul - WANDS (JP) You know when you listen to a band, and they remind you of when you were growing up? Thats the WANDS for me. This is one of the oldest Songs from them I remember listening to! When I think of it, I remember things from when I was like a little kid in the 90s, and how buildings used to look (everything is to modern!!!). Such a fun karaoke song too!

TRIPOD BABY - M-Flo (JP): This came out When I was in Middleschool, my care factor dropped pretty low. I remember listening to this song a lot, well actually the CD technically. M-flo is another band that makes me think of the 90s (even though they are very late 90's, and more 2000's). It just gives me that comforting feeling I had back then. Of course, this CD is not from the 90's, or anything like that, but still get that feeling. Like the last song I expect to here before 2000's would start (even though its from the 2000's). A remix of this song came out when Shadow the Hedgehog was released, I remember I was still kinda getting into the StH fandom, and I was like NO WAY! the whole time too hahaha.

Surreal - HOTEI (JP): (Flashing Seisure Warning) I kinda got in a weird 90s mode thanks to that WANDS video I posted. This song is what I think of when I think of someone Cool. To be honest, I could never remember the name of the song, so every time I would hear it in like a Store or something, I would like freeze and have to think what song it is and who sings it. lsakdfjsa nothign real special with it, just jot it down to more 90's crap I always listen to. I ended up buying the Hotei Collection just to have this song alksdjfasd I feel like If I buy it, I'll never forget ever again!

Mirai Iro - Plastic Tree (JP): GDI YuGiOh snuck its way onto this list again. When I was attending College in New York in the United States, I lived 2 blocks from my actual school. So every time I would walk to class, I would listen to this song. When It finished, I would play it again. Its the only song I seriously listened to when I was there. I would turn it up so loud to, I guess so I wouldn't have to talk to anyone (which you shouldn't do in citys anyways hahaha). It wasn't just cause it was YuGiOh, it was just super catchy at the time, and I guess I haven't heard it in a while, and my brain was ready for it over and over again.

may I please have wilddrive01?

Hmm.

1. Whenever I go by Showtaro Morikubo is a song that would play whenever I'm in my thoughts and need to think about big life decisions.

2. The Tower by Vienna Teng, a flashback to my teenage angst years.

3. Eye of the Tiger by Survivor. Whenever I meet with me friends to sing on singstar, this is one of the songs that gets me to the mood.

4. A beat of my own by Yoshimasa Hosoya. To keep me in that mood and in a "don't give up" mood, this song is so good.

5. Yuujou no Theme. An instrumental/piano song from Gundam SEED to calm down and go to bed ♥

I'd like dailylives06 as my choice card.

I think I'm going to try with Disney and/or musical songs.

1) Dancing Through Life (Norbert Leo Butz, from Wicked)
This is my life motto, I swear. Like, I guess I could be called a slacker. I mean, apparently I'm smart (like, what, where did that come from?), but I don't "apply myself." Mostly because I couldn't really care to shoot for above, and I'm pretty naive when it comes to real life. I don't think this is a good lesson for kids, but whatever.

2) Reflection (Lea Salonga, Mulan)
This actually is how I feel most days, especially when I have time to think back on myself and my actions. Plus it's a nice song for me to listen to when I feel down.

3) Hawaiian Rollercoaster Ride (Mark Keali'i Ho'omalu and Kamehameha Schools Children's Chorus, Lilo and Stitch)
I have to admit that I can't surf for the life of me, but I had to throw something out for my home state. Especially since I actually know what the hell Kamehameha School is. It's for those Hawaiians... I think there's like maybe 5 non-Hawaiians in there at most. I like the pop version more, but this is the original, and it sounds more "Hawaiian"(?) Let me also mention that Kauai (I think that's where this is based in) is definitely the island you go to if you want a trip to Hawaii. Anywhere other than Oahu, unless you want to be in cities. But why Hawaii if not for nature?!

4) Defying Gravity (Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth, Wicked)
I wish. Like, this is a song that inspires me to become a bit more than what I am. It's my "get off your ass and do something with your life" song. And, ironically, this is probably my least favorite Wicked song.

5) What Is This Feeling? (Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth, Wicked)
This is the song that makes me laugh; I mean the beginning is like *long run-on sentence that's sung* and then Elpheba like deadpans, "Blonde." Plus I have felt like this about people, so I completely understand this song, and the stupidity (I guess) behind the whole thing.

I also have Cats (no, seriously) that I could totally add because that's my childhood right there. Like, I think my favorite song was Skimbleshanks, the Railway Cat. (And then I like "The Moment of Happiness" and "Macavity, the Mystery Cat." And yes, I got too lazy to link those.)

And I would like to claim idolsyndrome11 as my choice card.
